Overvolting fans

Yes you read right, fans. To help relieve a little stress from the past few weeks.
I grabbed 3 12v dc brushless fans and armed with a 125w psu i went to work.
24V Cooler Overvolting this site helped me understand dc brushless fans very much when i first started the little project, and credit is due.
First off, generic 120mm fan 12v@.35A well on stock it lasted the whole 2 mins i tested it just fine. But when i put 17v through it, it only lasted for about 20 seconds before i saw smoke.
Second up to bat, a 80mm fan 12v@.25A it lasted for about 1 second on 17v, and left me with a bad smell and a large amount of disappointment.
Finally i have the optional fan for an asus boards vreg heat piping. It was the smallest fan we have atm and i just wanted to break it really. 12v@.15A.
Well stock no surprise, it works, but poorly. 17v it survives and lasts 2 mins and doesnt even get hot.
But at 24v the thing was way beyond spec and pushing a very large amount of cfm and lasted 10 mins before i gave up on it.

But after all was said and done, i dont reccomend this, just buy a good fan. but if you have some free time and some spare stuff, be very careful and go for it. That site lists all that is required to do so. We support the disclaimer so be careful.
