overclocking success with gpu

against the "better judgement" of my tech teacher in college, i decided to try playing F.E.A.R. on my 4 year old celeron rig. pretty much the only thing that wasn't stock was the graphics card (nvidia 6200 256 mb pci). well it took a while but i went from barely playing it on minimum settings (unoverclocked) to a medium/high mix with a good 30-40 fps on average with a max of 80 during the performance tests (overclocked) and with room to spare, heheh

current framerate records and high scores:

Halo: 121 fps (max detail, average res)
F.E.A.R.: 97 fps (low/medium mix, kinda low res during speed benchmark)

Re: overclocking success with gpu!

Congrats!

If i might suggest going through some of the Crysis settings/tuning guides out there. There is a lot of performance to be had by tweaking the Crysis config files.

Re: overclocking success with gpu!

ok then, i'll definitely look into that, i will admit i'm still a bit apprehensive as to how far i can push it to make up for what my cpu lacks but anything's worth a shot, lol thanks!

Re: overclocking success with gpu!

well, i looked into the crysis tuning thing to help with it and it showed a pretty good amount of improvement and i didn't have to sacrifice much so it looks virtually the same. and since i took another dive into overclocking my graphics card i'm pretty pleased with the results. in the beginning the card was running with a 285 mhz core clock and 400 mhz ram. now i've given the core cpu a 90 mhz boost and the ram is holding steady at 903. i just did the performance tests and i got a 34 fps average framerate but it's peak was 102, then when i tried playing i had xfire's fps counter on and it showed an average of 56 on single player and 75 on multiplayer, lol

oh and thanks for referring the crysis stuff for me to help smooth things out
