Overclocking FX

Hi,

I am looking for any help you might be able to offer regarding how to overclock my pc. I built a new system two months ago with the following specs:

AMD64 FX-62 2.8ghz
Asus M2N SLI mobo
4 gigs of DDR2 6400
XFX Nvidia 640mb 8800 GTS
500 gig SATA hd
misc....

I have read enough to know that the chip will overclock fairly well, I'm just not sure how. It is worth it, right? If anyone can help me, I would appreciate it.

Thanks in advance,

mileslegionis

Re: Overclocking FX

Sorry to double post, but I did find this bit of info...I'm just not sure what to do with it...

Overclocking

The charts already gave away the maximum stable overclock we reached - 3.1GHz - but what they don't tell you is what we had to do to get there.

Basically there were three factors to the successful overclock - four if you count the updated BIOS.

1. Figuring out the fastest stable memory speed
2. Figuring out the fastest stable memory timing
3. Setting the HTT speed and multiplier
4. Getting the right Vcore

In order to run at 3.1GHz:

* used the excellent Asus M2N32-SLI Deluxe motherboard
* set Vcore to 1.485V
* set DDR voltage to 1.9V
* set DDR timing to 5-5-5-15-2T @ 1152MHz
* set HT multiplier at 4
* set the HT speed at 345MHz
* set the NB to SB multiplier at 4
* set the NB to SB HT speed at 345
* used a Noctua heatsink with two low noise 12cm fans in a push/pull configuration

We were actually able to run some tests at up to 366MHz HT speed (HT multiplier of 3) but there is no point in reporting results for an unstable system. We were able to complete our entire processor benchmarking suite at 3.1GHz.

Re: Overclocking FX

well, as for the second post i can't really say anything (i'm sort of new myself) but i will say overclocking is definitely worth it. i just recently started overclocking my graphics card and it's giving out way better performance than when i got it with it's default clock speeds, even though overclocking graphics cards seems way more simple than processors, lol so yeah, if you're willing to do it then it definitely is worth it.

Re: Overclocking FX

Overclocking is a science, but I WC, what I do is leave my memory alone till last..
To me if you plan on doing any good overclocking drop air and get liquid.....
after that start with you mulit after I get my p5k3 back ill have a good overclocking chip Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale 3.0GHz 6MB. Hoping to take it up to 4.9 stable 24/7
I took a q6600 go up over 4.2 gigs for benches...

Its hard for me cause I cant remember all setting until I see them wed when I get my board back ill be more help but travis, or bluefire would be the guys to hit up but travis his a hit and miss he's kinda crazy guy another one would be exterminator..
