overclocking idea

if i'm not mistaken there's a certain overclocking record for percentage and not overall speed, right? if so then i have an idea that may slap down a new record. take an old intel 486 chip and try getting it to the speed of a high-end p2 or low-end p3 (roughly 266-333 mhz) i know the project wont yield a horrendous speed record but it will definitely win in terms of overclocking percentage (since 400% is a mere 200 mhz) so how about it? is it even possible? or is it destined to go the way of my recent twist tie p3 chip to p2 board project and just go up in flames? lol

Re: overclocking idea

i think it can be done i pushed i p2 over 800mhz with a lot of fans on volt mods
but i think it can be done its takes time to know what the hardware can do.

Re: overclocking idea

yeah, all we need are a few 50 mhz 486 chips to practice on and i'm sure there's still some of those things around.

Re: overclocking idea

That is a very good idea w/ the 486, I have a few friends that have used LN2 to push them to some where around 100mhz, I dont know what the theoretical frequency limit but hell you can pick up 486 chips from the dump!

also there is a World Record for the slowest clocked X86 CPU i believe its at 16mhz with an AMD K6-2

cant use the Nintendo DS chip for this one :P it has to be able to run Windows XP and be CPUZ valid.

Re: overclocking idea

hmm, never heard of that one, only record i heard of is the fastest percentage overclock where they took a p3 chip and overclocked it to 4.35 ghz on LN2. that's where i got the idea from actually, lol

but how were they able to validate the 16 mhz amd? i mean there's no way cpu-z can run on it, let alone any OS except for maybe DOS
