Koolance CPU 330 & Danger Den Barbs

When i was Overclocking SoundEvolution's rig at PDXLAN I was getting some bad temps on a "new DD block" so out of curiosity i replaced his current "DD block" with a new Koolance CPU 330 water block. Once the Koolance block was installed I made a Koolance comparison to the "DD" temps and to my surprise the temps were no better than the Danger Den block and actually the CPU was running a few Degrees higher!

Having played with the Koolance 330 Block for some time I felt the block was not performing as it should. I compared the temperatures of the "The DD" and Koolance Block in the system of interest to my my system (Q6600, Koolance CPU 330 Block) What I found was disturbing my Temps were nearly half of what i was seeing when i used the same Koolance 330 Block in SoundEvolution's Rig!!!!

This caused me to do some research into what was happening.
the problem seems to be with the choice barbs used, The common DD barbs have longer threads that are restricting flow when used in the Koolance CPU block.

Here is what it looks like:

SoundEvolution's Rig:
Q6600 (Danger Den cooled)
ASUS P5K3 Premium
2GB DDR3 1800
8800GT?
Thermochill 120.3 (PA)? Radiator

My Rig:
Q6600 (Koolance CPU 330)
ASUS P5K Premium
2GB DDR2 1066
8800GTX
Koolance 1KW Radiator

Re: Koolance CPU 330 & Danger Den Barbs

Whats up

But If I remember right could be wrong we tested with both barbs?? We even tried to use koolance tubing clamps but my tubing was to big for the clamps.. But Ill tell you what during my next build iam going to use all koolance product..

Since this well not be a gaming rig Iam going to use stuff I have laying around, and if V2V3 youd ever check your pm's or email you would get a google sketch up of it.. I have decided what amp and speakers Iam going to use, and I also know what power supplies iam going to use.. Audio power supply well be a Kinetik 100A 12V Power Supply, well be a little over kill but if your going to do something go big or go home.....Car audio Eclipse Cd player at 8 volts out put, and all Mmats speakers and an old school Mmats 4 Channel amp...

Any ways V2-V3 check your freakin emails... Give me a shout back at what you think....

Re: Koolance CPU 330 & Danger Den Barbs

1/2 DD Barb bottom thread to O-Ring 6.5mm, Total Thread length W/ O-Ring 10mm
1/2 Koolance Barb bottom thread to O-Ring 3.5mm, Total thread lenght w/ O-Ring 4mm

Koolance Barb is designed to not penetrate the top of the block. (.5mm Clearance)
DD barb not designed for Koolance block, Penetrates the top of the block (4.5mm) and actually enters the "water chamber" with 2mm threads, Leaving just 2mm (50%) of clearance above the pyramids.

All this assuming an ideal condition where you don't have to squish the O-Ring :P

Im going to have to test this one to see how it effects Performance/Flow

Now only if there was a sponsor for some flow meters

Re: Koolance CPU 330 & Danger Den Barbs

Travis get a more recent barb from DD dude. The one you have looks like the old size. the new thread length is probably around 6mm

Re: Koolance CPU 330 & Danger Den Barbs

Did anyone notice how DD also offers 1/4 fittings? Hmm i seem to recall a little while back them saying it was "pointless" and "Inefficient" to use 1/4"?
