markklebs new short Tower Mod...

Ok Intel has a mod contest on You Tube
YouTube - Broadcast Yourself.

Since the mod has to be done and filmed (1 min Video) by Jan 14 I thought to build a tower mod with stuff laying around.
It has to be Intel stuff (Im a AMD Fanboy, lol) so I will be using The Asus mobo DB bought for me at PDX10 and a $38 single core Intel CPU, lol..(no expense will be spared)

I am going to keep it smaller (case is 14" high) here is what Im starting with.
Newegg.com - Rosewill RZS05 BLK Black SGCC Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Retail

I bought it a couple mos ago when I saw it for $19. I thought the idea of the PS in the lower front of the case was pretty cool.

Ok now the Shuttle contest was pretty embarrassing so I am hoping to do better here. (at least I wasent last, thanks Travis)

Re: markklebs new short Tower Mod...

Here is a shot showing the case and mobo

I am going to use my 2 8600GTs and the Koolance H20 stuff. Single rad in lower front (I only need to cool a 35 watt CPU and the 8600s)and PS mounted where the floppy/Hdds go.

I was thinking of making the Mobo tray from CarbonFiber/Aramid (yellow/black) as well as the I/O panel and maybe the face.

I also was looking at it and will be mounting the 2 Laptop hdds (raid0) behind the mobo tray and doing the hidden wiring thing.

I will be mounting one of my smoothed out fans for an exhaust. I was wondering if I should use a Thermalright cooler for the chipset or borrow a Koolance cooler for it (hint hint Travis)

I have an old PC Power & Cooling 235watt PS in the closet I was thinking of using (LOL, SLI with a 235watt PS)

Any ideas what would look cool?

Re: markklebs new short Tower Mod...

well thanks for stopping by...I need to get this finished this week so I am off to the races.

I liked the case (especially for $19). I am thinking once done it should turn a few heads.

Now where did that darn Dremel go to.....

Re: markklebs new short Tower Mod...

That would be so fun.
I am cutting out holes in the mobo tray to pass the wires through and allow cooling of the back side of the CPU,Memory,NB- SB.

I also need to make the mounts for the Hdds on the back of the mobo tray.

Once I clean up my crooked ass cuts I am going to lay the CF. Il post a pict of the mobo tray tomorrow. (CF takes a while to cure)

LOL, only $1299 for an Ultra case? Thats almost as bad as the $800 painted case from Coolermaster...

I dont get what their marketers are thinking..Crazy money from entry to mid level hardware company.

I am especially impressed by the thick alum panel on the front....... NOT!
